Ambitious Vision
This transformative project includes a revitalization of Capital One Arena, as well as an expansion of MSE’s business and hospitality operations into the adjacent Gallery Place – creating a renewed entertainment destination in Downtown D.C. The project will be completed in six phases over three years.
The design concept creates an improved fan experience across the interior of the arena, including an expanded main entrance, wider concourses, and more elevators and escalators. Plans also include approximately 65% more concession space, 30% more restrooms, and an expansive new food and beverage experience.
The first phase of the Capital One Arena Transformation included foundational work, including escalator pit installations and hydrotherapy slab construction.
Phases 2 and 3
The second phase of the project focused on athlete spaces, which included new locker rooms, a family lounge, and new media facilities. The athlete spaces grew more than 60% and include state-of-the-art on-site training rooms, a new player’s lounge and dining space, as well as a family lounge for the players’ extended families. The Washington Capitals have a new film room, and the Wizards have a redesigned, on-site training facility. Upgrades also involved new escalators, initial modifications to fan seating, and the completion of the United Globe Club Lounge and the Vault Suites.
During the third phase, the team prepared for major exterior upgrades, including the new entrance on F street, the addition of new restrooms, and improved concession spaces.
Phases 4, 5, and 6
The fourth phase of the project will focus on major exterior upgrades, including a new façade and enhancements to the Grand Pavilion, and interior renovations will continue with revamped concession stands and upgraded suites.
The fifth phase of the Capital One Arena Transformation will involve the completion of club-level upgrades and additional interior updates, which will include corridor enhancements and seating modifications.
The last phase of the project will involve the completion of the Grand Pavilion and address final interior improvements, such as concessions, loge boxes, and restrooms.
