CONSOL Energy Center has achieved LEED Gold certification, becoming the first NHL arena to reach that standard of sustainability; it was announced today by the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Sports & Exhibition Authority.

“The Penguins and the SEA were committed to having a LEED building from the start of this project, and early on we realized that we had a chance to go for LEED Gold,” said Ken Sawyer, CEO of the Penguins.

In particular, Sawyer praised the efforts of design and construction partners Populous, PJ Dick/Hunt, ICON and Astorino.
